How to design a bedroom for a child- Case study

When I was approached about the design of a little girl’s bedroom, I was over the moon! It’s always been one of my dreams to do that, so I was very happy I was appointed.

The room which was meant to become my clients’ daughter bedroom was originally designed to be a guest bedroom, so there were a few existing wall lights, a roman blind, flooring and wall colour I had to work with and create a new, cohesive design.

I have received a list of must have items, which needed to be incorporated, such as a convertible cot, a changing table, a small wardrobe and some seating.  Most furniture I ended up selecting is convertible so will grow with the child i.e., the changing table could be converted to a desk- what a brilliant idea by Meble Vox!

The room was meant to be in keeping with the rest of the house, which was designed in a minimal style.

To soften the wooden floor a bit, I have proposed this lovely rug, which picks up the accent colours as well.

I have also proposed slightly more playful wall lights, which resemble a bird 🙂

There’s also a bit of artwork, above the bed and above the original fireplace; both in soft, unoppressive colours.

For the reading corner, I have proposed a small armchair upholstered in soft pink velvet from Cox & Cox and a little storage pouff from Magical Circu Furniture which has some extraordinary designs for children in their collection. I have also proposed a few shelves for books and the baby monitors.

And voila! that’s the final design of the room, perfectly balanced, with multifunctional furniture which could be adapted to different ages and changing needs.
